足 跡

​

ある夜、私は夢を見た。

私は、主（しゅ）とともに、渚（なぎさ）を歩いていた。
暗い夜空に、これまでの私の人生が映し出された。

どの光景にも、砂の上に二人の足跡（あしあと）が残されていた。
ひとつは私の足跡、もう一つは主の足跡だった。

これまでの人生の最後の光景が映し出されたとき、
私は、砂の上の足跡に目を留（と）めた。

そこには一つの足跡しかなかった。
私の人生で一番つらく、悲しい時だった。

このことがいつも私の心を乱していたので、
私はその悩みについて主にお尋（たず）ねした。

「主よ。私があなたに従うと決心したとき、
あなたは、すべての道において、私とともに歩み、
私と語り合ってくださると約束されました。

それなのに、私の人生の一番つらい時、
一人の足跡しかなかったのです。

いちばんあなたを必要としたときに、
あなたが、なぜ、私を捨てられたのか、
私にはわかりません。」

主は、ささやかれた。

「わたしの大切な子よ。

私は、あなたを愛している。あなたを決して捨てたりはしない。
ましてや、苦しみや試練の時に。

足跡が一つだったとき、
私はあなたを背負って歩いていたのだ」。

FOOTPRINTS

 

One night I dreamed a dream.
I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
one belonging to me
and one to my Lord.

 

When the last scene of my life shot before me
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
There was only one set of footprints.
I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times in my life.

This always bothered me and I questioned the Lord about my dilemma.

"Lord, you told me when I decided to follow You,
You would walk and talk with me all the way.
But I'm aware that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints.
I just don't understand why, when I needed You most,
You leave me."

 

He whispered, "My precious child,
I love you and will never leave you
never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints
it was then that I carried you."
